To anyone who can help, I have been struggling with this problem for the past month. When running McAfee's full Virus Scan (version 13.3) the scan freezes on file Windows Installer d2976.msi. The computer then crashes to Blue Screen that flashes quickly a Kernel Stack Error. I have contacted McAfee for assistance but none of their solutions have worked (they suggested I get all windows updates, which I did including upgrading to Vista SP2 (have Vista Home Premium) and uninstalling and reinstalling McAfee). I had been running the full virus scan on a weekly basis without problems before this started and don't know how it came about. Unfortunately I have no restore points before this started either to see if that would solve anything. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Angie. Hello, Angie Thank you for using the Answers Forum! After you run Check Disk and it sees the file error, try it a second time to see if it finds more on the second pass. You may also want to run the Memory Diagnostics Tool by going to Start, type “memory” in the search box and open Windows Memory Diagnostic then select to reboot or wait until later. In terms of security, if one is aware of the actual current malware landscape for Mac, those exceptions cover only some components of some items and where they operate. With Sophos, YMMV. For BitDefender I don't even bother/there is no need. So my advice to you is to enable scan on boot and restart the computer without doing full scan, then while it's starting up (Before the virus has a chance to load) it will eliminate the problem(s) without a hitch!
